Grain-free brownie pie is the perfect pie for chocolate lovers! It has a rich, chocolaty flavor and a mouth-watering texture. This brownie pie will help you get your chocolate fix in on Thanksgiving day. I love that it is free of grains, gluten, and nuts, meaning it is perfect for people with dietary restrictions! It is a really easy pie to make and it uses healthy ingredients! Serve it up with dairy-free coconut ice cream, and this grain-free brownie pie is one you don’t want to skip!
In my house, November makes the beginning of full-fledge baking season. That means we go through a lot of ingredients, bake a lot of delicious foods, and spend a lot of time in the kitchen! Even with diet restrictions, we still manage to bake some of the most delicious baked goods! I believe some of the baked goods we make are even better than store-bought or conventionally made baked goods! With the use of so many ingredients, we also have to make frequent grocery shopping trips. Luckily for us though, we have grocery shopping options right at our finger tips! Finding and buying healthy ingredients is simple and affordable! Here are some of the ‘grocery stores’ we frequent the most!
Thrive Market
Thrive Market is an online health food store that sells items at an affordable price! We often make monthly orders through Thrive Market to stock up on ingredients for baking. I love that I can find many healthy baking options at an affordable price on Thrive Market. Here are some of the ingredients that we purchase frequently through Thrive Market:
- Otto’s Natural cassava flour
- Simply Organic vanilla extract
- Native Forest organic coconut milk
- Lily’s dark chocolate chips
- Navitas coconut sugar
- Nutiva coconut oil
- Bob’s Red Mill gluten-free rolled oats
- Primal Kitchen paleo mayo
You can also find ingredients such as Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips, Bob’s Red Mill tapioca flour and arrowroot flour, Wholesome molasses, Pamela’s honey grahams, and other healthy baking ingredients on Thrive Market!
Amazon
We occasionally make order from Amazon’s grocery store when we can’t find the ingredients elsewhere or if they are cheaper through Amazon. The nice thing about Amazon is if you have Amazon Prime, you can get your ingredients quickly so you can start baking! Some items that are available on Amazon that you might not be able to purchase locally include:
- Cassava flour- Otto’s Naturals or Anthony’s
- SoDelicious unsweetened coconut milk
- Nutiva coconut sugar
- Pamela’s simple bites chocolate chip cookies
The only down side to purchasing through Amazon is that often times you have to buy the items in bulk. Instead of being able to buy just one SoDelicious coconut milk carton, you may have to buy four or five. The other down-side is that occasionally the items we want to buy are not eligible for free-shipping.
Local Grocery Stores
If you prefer not to buy your ingredients online, some local grocery stores may carry what you need! The benefit of buying locally is that you can see what you are getting, you don’t have to pay for shipping (just for gas), and you don’t have to wait for the ingredients to come in through the mail. Here are some local grocery stores near us that may also be near you!
Kroger– This is where we get our organic, grass-fed butter, SoDelicious unsweetened coconut milk, and Bob’s Red Mill tapioca flour that we use in a lot of our recipes. We also get SoDelicious dairy-free coconut milk ice cream at Kroger which we sometimes have with our pies! Pamela’s honey grahams and Pamela’s simple bites chocolate chip cookies can be bought there too, we often make pie crusts out of those products. Additional items that can be bought at Kroger include Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips, organic cream cheese, and Simple Truth creamy peanut butter (no sugar added).
Local Co-op– We get Organic Valley cow and goat’s cheese, Field Day organic tomato paste, Nutiva coconut flour, and NadaMoo dairy-free coconut milk ice cream at our local co-op.
Whole Foods Market– Two products that we like to get at Whole Foods include 365 brand of organic butter and NadaMoo dairy-free coconut milk ice cream. Whole Foods Market also carries many of the ingredients that I listed under the other grocery stores too.
Finding alternative ingredients for baking when you have diet restrictions is becoming easier as more grocery stores are realizing the need for alternative options. I love baking and creating new recipes that are healthier and still taste delicious! This dairy-free brownie pie is no exception! It contains a healthy fat, low metabolizing sugar, and low inflammation flours!
Grain-free Brownie Pie (nut free)
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup organic, grass-fed butter
- 2 oz. Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup coconut sugar
- 1/4 cup Otto's cassava flour
- 1/2 cup Bob's Red Mill tapioca flour
- 2 free-range organic eggs
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
- 1 cup Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips
- 1 unbaked grain-free pastry crust
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter and 2 oz. of chocolate chips over low heat. Once melted, remove from the heat and stir in the coconut sugar.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flours, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Pour the chocolate mixture into the batter and stir until everything is combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips. Spread the brownie batter into the pie crust.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes. The top should form a crust but still be gooey in the center. Let cool completely before serving.
