Dairy-free maple syrup pie has a truly delightful maple flavor and an amazing texture! This maple syrup pie has a smooth, creamy consistency and a bold maple flavor! I had never heard of a maple syrup pie until I started exploring some unique pie flavors to try. When I came across the traditional Canadian maple syrup pie, I knew I had to try making one! Dairy-free maple syrup pie is similar to a butterscotch pudding pie. I love that this pie is easy to make and is dairy-free, grain-free, gluten free, and corn free!

Dairy-free maple syrup is probably one of the most expensive pies I have made because it uses a whole cup of 100% pure maple syrup! It was worth it though! This maple syrup pie was so delicious! I used fresh, pure maple syrup that I purchased from the local sugar shack. Maple syrup does contain natural sugar and should therefore be used in moderation. However, maple syrup is a healthier natural sugar. I like to use natural sweeteners, like pure maple syrup and coconut sugar, in my recipes because they are healthier for our blood sugar levels. Raw honey is another beneficial natural sweetener that I like to use in no-bake recipes so that it can retain it’s beneficial properties.

Benefits of Maple Syrup

  • Maple syrup is lower on the glycemic index than refined sugars, so it does not cause a serious spike in blood sugar levels.
  • Maple syrup goes through minimal processing compared to refined, store bought sugars.
  • The anti-oxidants contained in maple syrup is superior to some other forms of sugar. In fact, maple syrup contains up to 24 different anti-oxidants.
  • Plant-based compounds in maple syrup provide anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Maple syrup is healthier for our digestive systems.
  • Because maple syrup is derived from tree sap, the syrup retains many beneficial vitamins and minerals.

I love using maple syrup as an alternative to other processed sugars! It works well in many of my recipes and provides just enough sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth! One thing to keep in mind though is that maple syrup is still a sugar and should be consumed in moderation. That means that this dairy-free maple syrup pie should be made only on occasion (perhaps for Thanksgiving?).

Maple Syrup Fun Facts

  • You need about 40 gallons of sap to produce 1 gallon of maple syrup and sugar maples will produce between 5-15 gallons of sap per season!
  • Maple syrup is graded based on it’s color. Depending on where you live, the grading scale may be different. In Canada, maple syrup is graded into categories, Americans prefer to grade their maple syrup with a letter (AA, A, B, C, & D), and the people in Vermont grade maple syrup under 4 titles: “golden color with delicate taste”, amber color with rich taste”, dark with robust taste”, and “very dark with strong taste”.
  • Canada supplies about 80% of the word’s maple syrup and Quebec provides about 2/3 of that percentage. There’s a reason why they cal it Canadian maple syrup pie!
  • In order for tree sap to become maple syrup, the sap must be boiled to a temperature of about 219.5 degrees F.
  • Maple syrup can be made into maple cream (super delicious on toast or bagels!), maple candies, or maple sugar.

Dairy-free maple syrup pie turns this delicious, beneficial natural sweetener into a tasty, delightful dessert! The creamy, smooth texture of this pie reminds me of pudding and the bold maple flavor reminds me of rich maple candies! I love that this fantastic dessert is grain-free, gluten free, dairy-free, nut free, and corn free!

This dairy-free maple syrup pie should satisfy your sweet tooth! I only used 1 cup of maple syrup in this recipe, however, I have seen maple syrup pie recipes that call for up to 4 cups of maple syrup!
